Broadband connections provide fast, always-on connections to the Internet for
your home or office.

Broadband
connections fall into two categories - ADSL and Cable Modems. Both
offer access speeds between 10 and 40 times faster than conventional dial-up
modems.

Broadband
connections are 'always-on'. That is, there isn't the wait
associated with traditional dial-up modems.

Broadband
connections can be used in conjunction with a hub or switch to enable
multiple PC's to be connected to the Internet. They are an excellent
way of providing your small / medium office with high speed internet access.

Broadband
connections should always be used in conjunction
with a Firewall to protect your network and PC's from
outside access.

ADSL technology
works over existing phone lines - at a different frequency range to that
of normal voice calls so there is no need to have a separate phone line
installed. You will however need to be within a 2-3km radius of an ADSL capable
telephone exchange.

Cable Modems work
through the same cables as your cable TV (if you have this). Most service
providers demand that you use their cable and telephone services to qualify
for broadband.
